Pearland, TX (September 29, 2008) – Pearland ISD accepts out-of-district transfer students

Pearland Independent School District is accepting out-of-district transfer students who choose to attend the district’s schools.

“We look forward to welcoming students who want to experience the quality education our schools provide,” said Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain. “We offer challenging academics and exciting extracurricular programs.”

Instructions are available on the district Web site, www.pearlandisd.org. Pearland ISD will begin accepting applications Wednesday, Oct. 1.

In addition to the completed application forms, parents or guardians must submit the following items to the office of Cary Partin, senior assistant superintendent, at the Education Support Center, 2337 N. Galveston:

   • $50 nonrefundable application fee (money order or certified check only)
   • Copy of child’s official birth certificate (Bureau of Vital Statistics)
   • Copy of parent/legal guardian’s current Texas driver’s license or ID card
   • Copy of parent/legal guardian’s deed or current lease
   • Copy of parent/legal guardian’s current gas, water or electric bill
   • Copy of child’s Social Security card
   • Copy of child’s immunization record
   • Copy of child’s attendance and discipline records for the current school year and the 2007-08 school year

The district will notify parents and guardians of the status of completed applications.

Students accepted as inter-district transfers may continue attending Pearland ISD on a year-to-year basis unless they violate district policies or discipline and attendance requirements.

The district will evaluate district policy (FDA Local) annually to revise and update inter-district transfer requirements and determine whether the transfer policy will continue. If Pearland ISD discontinues the policy, inter-district transfer students may complete the school year in the district.

Pearland ISD schools closed to inter-district transfers include Carleston, Silverlake and Silvercrest elementary schools and Dawson High School. Additional campuses will close when the capacity reaches 95 percent. Parents or guardians must transport inter-district students to and from school, though Pearland ISD will provide transportation for extracurricular and field trips.

For more information about inter-district transfer applications, contact Janet Christman at 281-485-3203.
